How to Create and Maintain a Native Plant Habitat Through the Year (and Years!)

This session focuses on the practical considerations for planting a native perennial plant garden that can thrive throughout the seasons and grow over the years. How do you prepare a new native plant area to ensure success, and how can you increase diversity by inserting plants into existing areas? How do you plan for root as well as above-ground competition and spacing, and make ample plant blocks so they can both provide food for caterpillars and persist perennially? How do you continually enhance the quality of your habitat’s physical characteristics?  When and how do you trim and what do you do with leaf litter to ensure insects thrive? We’ll give an overview through the seasons and over the years and include practical tips that yield well-established and beautiful results with low maintenance living landscapes.
