Marianist Bro. Don Geiger, SM, Ph.D founded MEEC in the late 1980s. Don was a plant physiologist at the University of Dayton, and was an early practitioner of ecological restoration. He established what we now call the Geiger prairie - one of the oldest recreated prairies in Ohio - on a highway construction borrow pit. He passed away peacefully on December 29th, 2020 at the age of 87 in Dayton, Ohio. We thank God for the gift of his brilliant science intellect, his four decades of dedicated restoration of Mount St. John’s prairie, woods, wetlands and meadows, and his mentoring of students, staff, volunteers and all who loved learning and caring for God’s creation.
His Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated by Marianist Frs. Christopher Wittmann, Patrick Tonry and Charles Stander on Saturday, January 9. If you missed the livestream you can watch it below.
