Celebrating 25 years

Save the Date: Prairie anniversary

This year we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Bro. Don Geiger Eastern Tallgrass Prairie in the heart of the Marianist Nature Preserve at Mount Saint John. On October 2 and 3, we invite you to two days of remembering Bro. Don, celebrating his legacy, and being inspired for the future.

On Friday afternoon there will be guided tours and opportunities to collect seeds in the Geiger prairie. That evening we will host a special viewing of "Fire, Rain, Wind, Snow and Fire: The Story of A Prairie" with filmmaker and University of Dayton Graul Chair in Arts and Languages Suki Kwon. In her film, Suki captured Don's transformative vision that ultimately led him to found MEEC. We will also share our memories of him, and donations to the Bro. Don Geiger Intern Fund are invited.

On Saturday morning Dave Nolin, retired restorationist at Five Rivers MetroParks, will speak about the land history of MSJ that guided Don's work, his recollections of the "early" days of restoration in Greater Dayton and those whose willingness to experiment led to best practices that still guide land managers today. He will also share what he thinks restoration priorities are for the next forty years.

Throughout the rest of Saturday, we will have a variety of tours and hikes, art experiences, reflective experiences, and time to socialize. Choose your own adventure!

All are invited to a 4 pm mass at Queen of Apostles Chapel shared with the Marianist Brothers' council and administrative directors. A reception will follow.
